About the Surf School

holywell surf hut

Holywell Bay School of Surf was set up back in 2002 by 2 brothers Lee and Andrew Griffin and is the longest running surf school in the area. Having a big competitive surfing and life guarding background we felt we would be able to pass on a great understanding of the sea and surf safety with the passion and enthusiasm we both shared for the sport. All our surf lessons focus on the fundamentals of surf safety and etiquette in order for you to take your newly learned skills away with you for surfing in the future. Now in our 22nd Year Instructing we have nothing but great feedback and look forward to instructing in 2023.

National Trust

We are a small surf school based on one of the National Trust’s most picturesque beaches in Cornwall. We are lucky enough to also be the only surf school based on the actual beach at the Surf Life Saving Club, so no taking up half the lesson dragging boards across from the car park. Holywell Bay is a much more tranquil and family orientated beach and produces some of the best waves in the UK, but without the madding crowds of the town beaches. We keep our classes small so that everyone can enjoy a more hands on approach and Holywell Bay allows the space people learning to surf require.

Over 50 years combined surfing experience

All of our surf instructors have been brought up through the Surf Life Saving Club at Holywell Bay and have had a long history of Life saving and surfing. The combined life guarding experience alone is more the 40 years and surfing is over 50 years. We feel because of this experience along with our passion for surfing, Holywell Bay school of surf can guarantee the quality of teaching will always be of a first class experience.

Family friendly Surf lessons

Our Surf School runs lessons for children from as young as 7 years old, upto any age who would like to give surfing a go. Our priority is to teach you the fundamentals of surfing, giving you a basic grasp of the sport and of course hopefully getting you to “stand up” riding the waves as quickly and as safely as possible. Of course we cannot stand up for you, but the main aim is for you to enjoy the lesson and walk away with a basic knowledge of surfing, so you feel safe to give this fantastic sport another crack in the future.
